Homework assignments are designed to support comprehension of textbook reading assignments and to exercise computational skills. Students are expected to complete all tasks. Doing homework is a learning process. You may not know the answer to some questions at first. The book provides many supportive features such as model solutions, the index, glossary and table of contents. Parents, guardians, friends and classmates are also valid resources for help completing homework. Ultimately you will have an opportunity to ask how and why in class during expert team reviews. By the time the assignment is collected you will have every item thoroughly completed. When I grade questions sets I look for timely completion and written evidence showing the process that was used to answer the question. Question sets that show excellent understanding of the content will receive the highest grades. The following are descriptions of the minimum criteria for each grade. Noble Laureate (100%) The question set is completed on time. The process and reasoning leading to the each answer is shown. Each answer is clearly stated and accurate. Research Scientist (95%) The question set is completed on time. The process and reasoning leading to most answers are shown. All answers are clearly stated and most (>95%) are accurate. Lab Technician (85%) The question set is completed on time. The process and reasoning leading to answers are often (>85%) shown. Answers are often both clearly stated and accurate. Grad Student (75%) The question set is completed on time. The process and reasoning leading to answers are often (>75%) shown. Answers are often clearly stated and/or accurate. Upgrade (75%) Students shall correct assignment and complete addition teacher-specified work as evidence of understanding. Late (75%) The question set is turned in late and meets the criteria for Lab Technician. Trainee (40%) The question set is turned in but does not meet the criteria for Grad Student. No Credit There are three ways to receive no credit. (1) Do not do the assignment. (2) Do not turn in the assignment. (3) Copy another student’s assignment and turn it in as your own. |
